Hi, I’m Matt, and this is where I post things I’ve written. Over the years, I’ve been grateful to the likes of Document Snowboard magazine, The Stool Pigeon, Word Riot, Vine Leaves Literary Journal, Parable Press, MexBcn, God Is In the TV, and This Festival Feeling, for publishing my work. Much of what you’ll find here are short, personal pieces, based on my experiences teaching, travelling and trying to make sense of the craziness by which we’re surrounded.
As well as writing short stories, reviews, and anecdotes about my mum’s cat, I love to help other writers. If you like what you’ve seen here and you think you’d like to work with me, here’s how it goes:
“Send me your story (or article, or review, or love letter to the Queen). I’ll read it. I’ll check it, carefully and thoroughly, for grammar, punctuation and spelling. I’ll make suggestions on word choice, tone, structure, and anything else I think might need another look. I’ll also let you know what I think works, with a view to maximising your strengths and increasing your chances of being published (or receiving a reply from the Queen, if that’s what you’re after). Finally, I’ll make an overall comment on the piece, and send it back to you. Hopefully, we’ll then enter into a dialogue about how best to proceed. Prices are negotiable, depending on what you or your document requires, but in most cases I charge around £25 an hour.
If you have any questions, please, drop me a line. In the meantime, check out my manifesto, testimonials, or consult the list of FAQs.”
